Plus, Marriott cardholders can earn an extra 2x points when they use that card for their purchase. While most cruises max out at 25,000 Bonvoy points earned, some luxury cruise lines offer up to 250,000 Marriott points. The downside is that online pricing is not "live." Therefore, you must speak with a travel planner to get the latest prices and book your cruise.

It’s a great way to start your hunt for a trip if you’re interested in finding the cheapest cruise available and don’t care which line you sail. Cruise line websites will offer sailings only from that specific line, narrowing down your choices. Each site will also have filters that you can use to trim the list of available cruises, including departure date, port, length of cruise, and more. One site may advertise a lower fare for a cabin that is located in an undesirable location while another has a higher fare because it is a better situated cabin or on a higher floor. Or, you may see one low price that doesn’t come with any perks while another higher price includes extras.

Cruises to the Bahamas or the Caribbean tend to be more affordable than those to places like Europe or Alaska. If something goes wrong, an agent can help rectify the situation faster than you may be able to if you go it alone. Most make their money via commissions from the cruise lines. Leppert calls it “the best of the best” advice to go with a travel advisor.

Rooms at the very front or very back of the ship will naturally have less foot traffic around them and some people prefer these rooms given there are fewer people around them. In the “old” days of cruising you didn’t have many cabin choices. It was usually a room with a window or an interior cabin. The best way to find an agent or planner is to ask around for recommendations. Friends and family (or even people online) might have someone they recommend that can help you find the right cruise. If you don’t care or know which cruise line you want to sail, then start with one of these sites.
Explore the seas like never before!
The mega ships are always primed to be the best first choice for families, whether Norwegian’s 4,200-passenger Escape or the newest Oasis class of ships beginning with the new Wonder of the Seas. Their emphasis is on activities like adrenaline-rushing water slides, surf simulators, and three-tiered race tracks. Seasoned cruisers know that ship amenities are often less buys while at port. You can sign up for price alerts, which will notify you by email when the fare on your selected itinerary drops. It can be a complicated, time-consuming process that involves dozens of open tabs and maybe a spreadsheet or two. But knowing the best site to book a cruise can help a lot.
To help you out, we detailed the pros and cons of the best websites to book your cruise below. Before we get too far, however, there’s something you should know about price shopping for cruises online. Another consideration is to use port days to spend more time on the ship. Leppert notes that onboard amenities like pools, buffets and waterslides are less crowded when most people are ashore.

The people filling these roles are experts in cruising and know the ins and outs of what deals are being offered, itineraries, and even the pluses and minuses of certain cabins on the ship. They can also be a direct point of contact should you need to make any changes to your reservation. For some people, having a specific person you can contact is very valuable. You can also compare prices on multiple sites and sign up for Price Drop alerts. Unless you're incredibly flexible or live near a major cruise port, reduced cabin availability and sky-high airfares limit the appeal of the old-school 'last-minute-deal' of days gone by.
The scoop on shore excursions
Disney Cruise Line is an obvious place to start for families, but it has a surprising number of activities and experiences for adults, too, including adults-only areas on board. Still, this isn’t the line for an adult-only vacation unless you’re a hard-core Disney fan. Often cruise lines offer special rates that cannot be displayed to the general public. By registering with Cruise.com you will be able to view these special rates and offers.
Its cruise-booking interface is simple and straightforward, only requiring you to enter your preferred sailing destination and date range, as well as how many passengers you’ll be bringing along. Then Expedia does the heavy lifting for you, with comprehensive results that make it one of the best cruise search engines. All cruise lines also offer some form of price protection policy. If there is a price drop or a better promotion after you booked but before you make your final payment, in most cases the cruise line will adjust your fare.
That’s because everyone has a different opinion on each port based on their own experience. Most notable are departure ports in Florida and the Port of Seattle. The largest and newest ships will also have the latest and greatest features for you to enjoy. For instance, Norwegian’s newest ships have the world’s only go-kart tracks at sea. Carnival’s newest ships have the first at-sea roller coaster. Nothing beats cruise advice from other cruisers themselves, especially those with a few (or even 100) sailings under their belts.
Not only do you have to figure out which cruise line to sail, but also where you’ll go, how long you’ll cruise, which ship you want, what type of cabin, and even how you’ll actually book your trip. Since members love to share photos, you can count on getting a real, behind-the-scenes look at ships and ports that pique your interest. Reviews and live blogging are other ways cruisers share the ins and outs from their experiences to help others make the best possible decision. You don’t have to be booked on a cruise to join or participate in Cruise Critic's Message Boards. For millions in the research stage, the boards have become a vital resource for questions, recommendations, and advice -- there's no joining fee, just sign up and you are good to start exploring.
Keep in mind, these included perks often carry greater value than reductions in the overall price of the cruise. A complimentary beverage package, for example, can save you upwards of $1400 over the price of purchasing one onboard. Embark on the best family vacation aboard Liberty of the Seas. Experience the ultimate adventure and create unforgettable travels with your loved ones. Take a moment to make the most of your family vacation, uncover the best places to visit when taking a cruise for everyone.
If you have Premier status, you receive additional perks on select cruise lines, like wine and onboard credits. Sloan agrees and says people book cruises much further in advance than a hotel or flight, which means that inventory can get gobbled up quickly. Many cruise lines open up their reservation window as far as two years in advance, which means certain cabins can get snatched up.
